Kingham in the Cotwolds – Things to see and do

Kingham is a vibrant village in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds about four miles from Chipping Norton, which Country Life magazine judged to be “England’s favourite village” in 2004.

Among the reasons for the accolade were Kingham’s vibrant British Legion club run by villagers and the famous Plough Inn, which was the base for two league teams playing Aunt Sally – described as “the Cotswolds’ national sport”.

One of the many advantages of Kingham is its convenient location. The village is home to its own railway station, just a mile away, which is served by Cotswold Line trains connecting to major cities like London Paddington, Oxford, Worcester, and Hereford. This accessibility makes Kingham an ideal destination for both locals and tourists.

Kingham is not just a picturesque village, but also a well-equipped community. It boasts its own primary school and is home to the private Kingham Hill School , located a mile-and-a-half north of the village. Other amenities include two pubs, a village shop and post office, a village hall, two village greens, a children’s play park, and a football field. This array of facilities caters to the needs and interests of the local residents and visitors alike.

Kingham is twinned with the village of Pont-à-Marcq near Lille in France.

Alex James, Blur’s bass player, lives on a farm outside Kingham. In recent years, he has hosted The Big Feastival at the end of the summer with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. Another famous farm near Kingham is the award-winning Daylesford Organic Farm, which has established a hugely popular farm shop and cafe in recent years.
