A crucial phase of the development of the Performing Arts Centre in Chipping Campden has been completed this week, with the final section of the steel frame now finished.
Chipping Campden School (CCS) is creating a new performance centre that will transform arts education in the North Cotswolds and be a much-needed community asset. The project is set to be completed in time for the next academic year.

“It is very rewarding to see the framework for our future home of the performing arts taking shape,” said school principal John Sanderson. “Now, more than ever, communities need a vibrant creative hub on their doorstep.”
The centre, project managed by Dawn Lodge Associates, will feature a 340-seated spacious and flexible auditorium, drama/dance studio with sprung flooring, ballet barres and mirrors, green room/dressing rooms, rehearsal space/classrooms, Amphitheatre, and a foyer with a hospitality area.
“The building is progressing very well, and now the steel structure is in place, you’ll see changes on a daily basis,” said Nick Henderson from the builders, Trendgrey Construction.
Over 86 tonnes of fabricated steel has been used for the structure and to date, 487 cubic metres of cement poured for the foundations.
“The steel beams for the auditorium had to be spliced at the apex in order to negotiate the narrow roads of Chipping Campden,” added Mark Smith of Acanthus Clews Architects.
The school has a concerted campaign underway to raise the final fundraising target of £68,000 to hit the overall project cost of just over £3,800,000.
Funds raised will be used to further equip the building to a professional standard needed for all the Performing Arts disciplines and to ensure it is a valuable asset to the wider community.
