Gloucestershire County Council is investing £320,000 on resurfacing on the B4632 through Winchcombe and improving safety with work starting later this month.
The work is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 26, along a 1500m stretch of this key route through Winchcombe and is set to finish on Friday, June 26.

Two sections of footway will also be improved as part of the work and traffic calming measures will be introduced. New crossing points will be created and coloured surfacing will be used in certain areas to highlight hazards to drivers.
A road closure will be in operation between 7:30am and 5:30pm each weekday when highway crews will be on site to get the works done as quickly as possible. The road will be open outside these times and it will be open during the weekends. The work is being split into sections to minimise disruption.
During these closures a diversion route suitable for all vehicle types which need to use ‘B’ class roads will be put in place. Motorists are able to use alternative routes as long as they are suitable for the type of vehicle they are driving.
Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and, where possible, residents and businesses. The county council has written to residents asking for their co-operation in keeping their cars clear of the areas where resurfacing is taking place.
The public exhibition held at Winchcombe’s Guide Hall in March, which displayed the plans for the work, received a large amount of support from local people.
Councillor Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “With the better weather upon us we’re getting started on our most important road resurfacing schemes, and in Winchcombe we’re putting in extra safety measures too.
“It’s inevitable with a scheme of this size that there’ll be some disruption to road users, although we’ll make every effort to keep this to a minimum. I’m sure that local residents and road users will be pleased with the final result.”
Local county councillor for Winchcombe and Woodmancote Roger Wilson said: “I was pleased to see so many local people attend the exhibition held in March, and to see so much support for these improvement plans. We’ll all benefit from a safer town and better roads and pavements when the work is finished next month.”
