At the Queens Hotel in Cheltenham, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The 1st December saw the launch of the Christmas advent projections on the hotel’s Georgian façade, running from 4.30pm to 10.30pm each evening.
In collaboration with local partnership project, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), that helps young people in the area thrive, the Queens Hotel team has partnered with 13 local schools* to create a Kindness at Christmas advent calendar that showcases artwork from 24 primary schoolchildren*.

Each day, until the 24th December, a door will be opened, and a hand-drawn image will be revealed. With over 500 amazing entries, the Queens Hotel Cheltenham team have recently been busy selecting the finalists whose pictures will be displayed on the façade of the hotel.
Centered around the theme Kindness at Christmas, the images range from Christmas trees to snowmen, angels to reindeer drawn sleighs, and with an emphasis on the importance of being kind, the finalists’ drawings are sure to spread the festive spirit throughout the town this December.
Once government guidelines allow, the winning children and their families will be treated to an afternoon tea to mark the occasion and celebrate their drawings being up in lights on the front of the hotel.
Hotel general manager Erol Uray said: “With our façade restorations taking place until spring 2021, we wanted to use the opportunity to celebrate our community in what has been a challenging year for everyone.
“What better way to do this than to ask Cheltenham’s schoolchildren to share their festive take on ‘Kindness at Christmas’. The team and I have so enjoyed looking through all of the creative entries and we look forward to a door opening each day to reveal something truly magical for all to see and enjoy.”
Councillor Flo Clucas, member for healthy lifestyles and cabinet member leading on NCLB, said: ‘’Christmas is all about kindness and this is just the kind of innovative and inclusive thinking that we want to inspire in our community. We are really excited about our collaboration with Queens Hotel.
“It will be a truly magical and proud moment for local children to have their pictures revealed on the side of this iconic building, and then experience the grandeur of the venue for a fancy afternoon tea.‘’
Queens Hotel Cheltenham has begun a series of renovations on its beautiful Georgian façade which will be unveiled in spring 2021. Making the most of the darker evenings and bringing a little sparkle to the heart of Cheltenham, passers-by can see the projections each evening.
The hotel is partnering with projection and installation experts EMF Technology, leaders in their field who have lit up the likes of Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge as well as partnering with Marketing Cheltenham on a series of exciting projects.
