Construction work gets underway at Chipping Campden School to build a high specification centre, to be completed by Autumn 2021, for the benefit of the school and the local community.
Warwickshire-based business Trendgrey will lead the construction of the new integrated Performing Arts Centre which will feature a spacious auditorium with retractable tiered seating for up to 340, allowing maximum flexibility of the space.
In addition to this, there will be a fully equipped large dance and drama studio with fully sprung floors, dressing rooms/green rooms with showers, multi-functional spaces for classrooms or seminar rooms, refreshment and bar area and excellent lighting, acoustics and technical equipment.
The new facilities will transform the learning environment for both Chipping Campden School students and teachers, providing a dedicated area for the performing arts. The centre will offer the local community a new space for clubs and societies and the benefits of a wide-ranging programme of live performances, cinema screenings, lectures, talks, seminars and exhibitions.
School principal John Sanderson said: “After eight years of careful planning, on top of the enormous challenge of the past few months, I am absolutely delighted that construction work begins.
“We’ve been able to go ahead with this project as a result of the expertise provided by Dawn Lodge Associates and architects Acanthus Clews, as well as significant funds from the sale of land to Dutchy Homes and the generous support from the School’s Housing Association.
“Additionally, there is Section 106 funding and considerable donations from the Rockspring Charitable Trust, the Wolfson Foundation, local charitable trusts and private donors.”
He added: “We have a final fundraising target of £500,000 to hit our goal and to ensure the centre is fully-equipped to enable it to be enjoyed by students, teachers and the community for years to come.”
Having previously worked at the school on the expansion of the Sixth Form Centre, Nick Henderson from Trendgrey Construction said: “We think it’s fantastic that Trendgrey has been appointed to deliver the Performing Arts Centre and it’s great that we’ve been able to start immediately as this will minimise disruption to the school from now until completion.”
