The Royal Agricultural University (RAU), along with FWP Matthews Millers and Hobbs House Bakery, has launched The Wheat Project, which will take over The Big Feastival’s allotment patch this summer.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural Potato Patch, Alex James was joined by Fabulous Baker Brothers Tom and Henry Herbert and children from Kingham and Bledington primary schools’ gardening clubs to plant wheat, rye and spelt varieties that will be ready to harvest at this year’s The Big Feastival, taking place at Alex James’s Kingham farm from August 28-30.

The quaint north Cotswold town of Winchcombe is staging its 6th annual Walking Festival in May, building on the successful formula that has won it two Cotswold Tourism awards.
The three-day festival offers more than 20 walks for differing levels of fitness and ability. Most walks are themed and this year they include visiting lost medieval villages, following the legendary journey of the murdered Prince Kenelm or visiting mills along the upper River Isbourne.

Chipping Campden Baptist Church (CCBC) has come a long way since the late 1970s when the ‘congregation’ at one service consisted of three elderly members sitting around a stove in the chilly back room praying for new people to come in to the church.

Stroud District Council is asking for feedback to help determine the future of the derelict Standish Hospital site which was vacated a decade ago.
A draft ‘planning concept statement’ has been produced to help the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which owns the site, bring it back into use in a way which preserves the heritage of the site.

A prehistoric monument in the Cotswolds has been given a stargazing award in recognition of its views of the Milky Way.
The Rollright Stones, situated high on the Oxfordshire-Warwickshire border near Long Compton, is made up of three Neolithic and Bronze Age megalithic monuments.

Pupils brighten up town with wildflower project

Pupils at the Rosary Catholic Primary School in Stroud have been preparing to brighten up their school grounds and the local area with 3 million wildflower seeds by planting wildflowers to attract butterflies, hoverflies and other pollinating insects.
The wildflowers, which have been planted in a prominent location alongside Merrywalks, will also help to make the area more colourful and attractive, supporting Stroud’s “In Bloom” bid.

Three pupils from Chipping Campden School are celebrating their success in a national science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) challenge.
Year 8 students’ Noah Booker, Olly Fisher and Chris Bridges, who make up Team Zoom, won the Central England regional finals of the Bloodhound SSC Class in the 2015 F1 in Schools competition on February 25.

Horse logging course is no drag

The Cotswolds Conservation Board’s first-ever horse logging course last month was a sell-out and already bookings for the next course in October are being taken.
The Introduction to Horse Logging took place in February at Ullenwood, near Coberley, Gloucestershire, where the board has managed a woodland site since 2013.
